What is the HIFU treatment used for?

Wondering about an effective yet non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment? Choose the HIFU treatment, which uses only ultrasound to perform!

HIFU treatment – what does it consist in?

The name of the HIFU treatment comes from High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), and is designed to rejuvenate the skin by using a beam of high-energy ultrasound waves. The distinctive feature of HIFU is that the technology allows you to focus on a small area of the body and affects tissues within a well-defined depth. In doing so, the treatment does not damage the surface of the skin, and is therefore considered non-invasive.

HIFU ultrasound can affect the musculo-fascial layer of the skin, which significantly determines the skin’s tightness, which is why the effect of the procedure is sometimes compared to plastic surgery and referred to as a non-surgical facelift. Of course, you can’t put an equal sign between surgical and non-invasive facelift, nevertheless, high-frequency ultrasound strongly stimulates the production of new collagen in the deep layers of the skin, resulting in better skin tone.

HIFU treatment – advantages

Unlike many other treatments performed in aesthetic medicine offices – using, for example, light or laser – high-frequency ultrasound waves can be used at any time of the year and on any skin. Moreover, the HIFU treatment is performed once – and this one time is enough to achieve a full and lasting effect. At the same time, it is important to be aware that HIFU does not produce an immediate result. The treatment triggers a process of skin remodeling that lasts up to three months after the procedure, and the final effect in the form of tightened and firm skin lasts for at least 18 months.

HIFU treatment – for whom and why?

The ideal patient eligible for HIFU treatment is a young person with fairly tight skin and/or slight excess fat. The skin of younger patients is usually quite elastic and regenerates quickly, which is important for a procedure involving ultrasound pulses. The procedure is capable of reducing wrinkles, smoothing the skin, improving elasticity on the face and neck, lifting the arches of the eyebrows and lower eyelids, shaping the cheekbones, and improving the cleavage.

It’s also worth noting that smoking or heavy use of tanning beds worsens the condition of the skin, which translates into a less visible effect. Significant excess body fat and very poor skin condition can also detract from the effect of the procedure.

An alternative to a surgical lift?

The HIFU procedure is an excellent alternative to a surgical lift, for the reason that the ultrasound beams reach the same depth at which plastic surgeons operate. This refers to the musculo-fascial layer of the skin, which lies at a depth of 1.5 mm to 4.5 mm. The plus side of the non-invasive facelift is that no convalescence is required after the procedure. This technology is widely applicable to the face, neck, décolleté, body, hands and abdomen area and has no side effects on the body.
