Celebrities like to draw attention to themselves on the red carpet. However, a stylish and elegant look is associated with serious expenses, although celebrities have no problems with this. It even happens that creations do not cost them anything, because the mere fact that a celebrity appears in a Givenchy, Dior or Valentino dress is the best advertisement for these brands.
In 1997, Australian star Nicole Kidman wore a gown to the Academy Awards ceremony that held the title of the most expensive creation in red carpet history for 15 years. Her creation, designed by John Galliano for Christian Dior, cost $2.65 million. However, let’s note a nuance: this $2 million was paid by the British designer to Nicole Kidman herself for agreeing to wear the creation. Generous – one must admit – compensation for this fashion blunder: for her choice, the actress had to endure a lot of malicious comments.
In 2013, Jennifer Lawrence broke Nicole Kidman’s record by stepping out on the red carpet in a $5.3 million Christian Dior gown. Her styling not only ranks among the most expensive, but also the most uncomfortable in the history of the gala. During the ceremony, Jennifer scored several awkward situations, including tripping on the stairs, hitting her forehead on a step. Worst of all, the incident occurred just as Jennifer was walking to pick up the statuette. The mischievous ones later commented that Jennifer did it on purpose, wanting to carve out a few extra seconds of airtime for herself and her expensive and absolutely fabulous creation.
The year 2007 was exceptionally successful for Kate Winslet in terms of fashion. Her mint-colored gown designed by Valentino won the hearts of many women and was considered one of the best creations that night. Kate owes the widespread admiration to her eldest daughter Mia Threapleton. It was she who chose this simple, yet elegant gown for her mother. The creation cost the actress $132,521.
The chic Charlize Theron really knows how to charm an audience. At the American Film Academy Awards, she wore a white gown designed by fashion house Christian Dior. The gown cost the actress $100,000, but including the embellishments that complemented the creation, the styling was worth some $4 million.
Actress Anne Hathaway presented herself in this phenomenal red Valentino gown at the 2011 Oscar gala. Although the actress’s gown and glamour alone would have been more than enough to make an electrifying impression, the gala host completed the look with a necklace by Tiffany & Co. worth about $10 million….
British actress Keira Knightley, best known for the film “Pride and Prejudice,” knows how to act to outshine other celebrities on the red carpet. Vera Wang tailored this creation especially for her. In addition to the gown, the accessories are worth noting – the actress’ neck is adorned with a vintage-style necklace designed by Bulgari. Immediately after the ceremony Keira donated the gown to charity. Put up for auction on eBay, the gown was sold for more than $7,800. Her production cost $39,000.
